Anthony's Favorite Prayers
I believe prayer is a crucial component of living a happy and complete. We nourish our bodies but can sometimes forget to nourish our spirits. When our prayer is dry or does not seem to be productive, it can help to rely on the words and wisdom of others or to simply use a prepared set of words, ideas, images, or music to pray with. There are a variety of sites that provide daily prayers including: Sacred Spaces and Loyola Press' Three-minute retreat. For those looking for a more substantial type of online experience you may wish to consider Creighton University's Online Retreat in Everyday Life. If you are looking for some words of wisdom, consider listening to Fr. Rodney Kissinger's podcasts. Some of my favorite prayers that I have found helpful include:
The First Principle and Foundation from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola serves as a good introduction into "Jesuit flavored" prayer.
Another interesting document for prayerful reflection from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is entitled Everyday Christianity: To Hunger and Thirst for Justice.
If you know of other sites that feature good information on Jesuit Spirituality please let me know.
